What do you mean by "tiny" and "optical switch"? There are a host of
MEMS-based (microelectromechanical systems) that are used for circuit
switching in fiberoptic communications. These are tiny optical switches,
much less that 1mm each. Is this what you mean? If so, you can find out
about them and other MEMS-based optical gadgets at http://mems.isi.edu/.
